Family Road Trip Tips & Activities

Global Travel Network - road tip tips“Are we there yet?” is that age old question that are inevitable in family road trips. Ways to lower the chances of hearing it though do exist. The main key is to prepare before the road trip, then you will be ready with multiple options to keep the kids occupied.

Of course preparing an activity bag to help keep the kids occupied is dependant upon their age group. And who knows your children better than you do? Choosing activities, snacks, etc. by using their favorite things will make this task so much easier. For instance if your child hates to write, do not plan writing games, or at least only include one writing game along with other games your child would enjoy more.

Playing the “License Plate” game is always a good option, because it can take up a lot of time. You can also make a lot of variations upon this game. The original version is to write down the name of each state as you spot it on the passing car license plates, and try to get every state written down first. A few variations of this game include:

1)  Choosing only states from a particular region of the country.
2)  States that start with a particular letter or set of letters
3)  States that end with a particular letter or set of letters

You can’t go on a road trip without “I Spy” and it is a game for all ages. It is so simple, one person says “I spy something _____” and they fill in the blank with a clue. Then each person takes a turn trying to guess what the person spy’s. Generations have been passing the time with this road trip game.

Older children like to play “Spot the Car” because of their growing interest in cars. You choose different types of cars to try to spot first.

Packing age appropriate activity books is always a good idea, because there are so many options. You can choose from crossword puzzles, mazes, dot to dot, word games, and many more.

With a little thoughtful planning and preparation your family road trips can be enjoyable for everyone.

Global Travel Network Wins Second Place at Fundraiser Poker Tournament, Donates Winnings

Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) April 23, 2014

Global Travel Network was just one of the companies in attendance at the TrackResults “Go All In to Help Cancer Survivors Win” poker tournament that was held at the South Point Hotel and Casino on April 5, 2014. With more than 130 people in attendance and almost 100 charitable buy-ins to the tournament, the event was a huge success where attendees pledged nearly $38,000 for the breast cancer survivor group, Send Me On Vacation.

A representative from Global Travel Network ended up winning second place overall in the tournament, which awarded a large cash prize. Instead of walking away with the money, this Global Travel Network team member donated her winnings back to the charity, assisting Send Me On Vacation’s mission to send deserving women on the vacations they need. SMOV believes that these vacations are the start of the healing process for women who have recently undergone treatments for breast cancer. Unfortunately, many of these women do not have the financial resources to take these vacations, due to the high costs of cancer treatments. This is where Send Me On Vacation, a charity that is intimately involved in the travel industry, comes in to make these women’s dreams come true.

Global Travel Network operates with a strong code of values that it instills into all employees and promotes adherence to in its daily business dealings. One of these values is that of giving back to the community, whether it be in Denver, Salt Lake City or Roseville, or giving back to a charitable organization such as Send Me On Vacation that is nationally recognized.

Global Travel Network has been a part of many fundraisers and has donated to many charitable efforts throughout its time of operation, because the company holds the values of good corporate citizenship and assisting the community around itself in very high esteem. Some of these efforts include: donating to the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts & Education Complex in Utah, supporting the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, Ballet West in Salt Lake City, and many other donations.

Global Travel Network was honored to have been a part of such a great event that will truly make a difference in the lives of so many deserving women, and looks forward to supporting Send Me On Vacation in the future. For more information, visit http://www.mygtn.com or call 801-287-9999.

Vacation Tips to Stretch Your Dining Dollars

Vacation tips by Global Travel NetworkEating the local cuisine while on vacation is part of the fun of traveling, and can provide you with some great memories. Making simple meals in the hotel or condo to supplement your main meal outings can help conserve your vacation food budget.

Salads are always a good choice, because they are healthy, light, and very easy to obtain. They can usually be purchased ready to eat in a variety of options. Many times grocery stores offer single serving containers of dressing also. If not, most rooms now come with at least a small refirigerator so you can save leftovers and condiments.

Most hotel rooms have a microwave also, with most condos having full kitchens. A quick trip to the grocery store can provide snacks and easy meals. Pick up some things like microwave popcorn, mixed nuts, bananas, apples, oranges, and other fruits that are very easy to eat without utensils.

Nachos are very easy to make on paper plates with some chips, and cheese. You can also get small containers of onions, guacamole, bean dip, and some hot sauce to top them off.

There are lots of soups, pastas, veggies, and more that now come in microwavable containers for easy meals. Crackers, cookies, and chips with dip also make great snacks.

Sandwiches are great choices, grab some sub rolls, a few different types of meat, lettuce, and other veggies. Pair this with some chips and pickles for a simple, fulfilling meal. You can also visit the grocery store deli department.

If you have any specific dietary needs, make sure and bring any of those specific foods along with you.

HoneyDoo’s for a Stress Free Vacation

Global Travel NetworkVacationing should be a time for relaxation, not a time for stress which can arise if a few simple things are not taken care of at home before you leave on your trip. Things like broken water pipes, or even pests invading rotten food, can all make returning from your vacation a nightmare.

Things like leaving your heater on, are not enough of a precaution to prevent pipes from freezing. Something could happen to the heat, or even the power could go off. So it is always best to just turn off the water main then drain out the pipes.

Pouring some antifreeze in the toilet and any other place there is standing water can always help to divert a catastrophe. Make sure to flush the water before using the toilet when you return, and discard any other water that you placed antifreeze in. Handle the antifreeze treated water with care while preparing for vacation and discarding after vacation, because of the dangers associated with antifreeze.

Discard all perishables, in and out of the refrigerator. There is nothing worse than to come home and find a hole in the bread and mouse droppings that have to be cleaned up. Fresh vegetables and fruits will rot after a few days, so it is best to throw them out also. Carry out the trash with all those discarded perishables, so when you return they are not rotten, stinking and attracting pests.

Place clean sheets on your bed and clean towels in the bathroom before you leave, because you will really appreciate crawling into a bed with clean sheets the night you return home from your vacation. The crisp, clean sheets will provide that nice hotel feeling, bringing back pleasant memories of the trip you just experienced.
